Student Life
Cardiff is one of the UK's most popular University cities, with over 30,000 students making their home here during term time. A cosmopolitan city and one of Europe’s youngest capitals, Cardiff is an ideal place to spend your university years. With 3 higher education institutions, Cardiff's students make up 10% of the population.

Student safety
Cardiff is a safe city, and levels of crimes against students have dropped by over 60% since 2003. Most crimes committed against students can be prevented with common sense and basic safety precautions. Cardiff also has a dedicated student liaison police officer, PC Bob, who provides information and advice to students throughout the year. Health
All UK students, and international students on courses lasting 6 months or more, can get treatment from the National Health Service (NHS). You will not have to pay for hospital treatment, but you may have to pay for some dental treatment, depending on your income. Libraries
As well as university libraries, Cardiff has a number of public libraries throughout the city, as well as the new Central Library. Central Library is located at the junction of Mill Lane and the Hayes. At each library you'll find everything from books to CDs to DVDs to Internet Access, community events and a whole universe of online services. Find out more.
Language
Cardiff is the UK's only bi-lingual city. The first thing you'll probably notice is that the road signs are in both English & Welsh. Most public sector organisations are bi-lingual including the university you'll be attending. Welsh is spoken by approximately 10% of Cardiff's population and is rising, but don't panic, you'll find everyone speaks English as well. For more information and a crash course in Welsh click here. As well as Welsh, Cardiff is a cosmopolitan city with more than 100 ethnic communities based in the city for over 100 years. One study has found that Cardiff has speakers of at least 94 languages.

Transport
Cardiff is easy to get around by foot, bike, and public transport. The city is mostly flat with a variety of cycle routes and trails. Cardiff Bus run a comprehensive service, and if you use the same route every date, week rider tickets can save you money. Find out more on how to get around here.
