Cardiff is one of the best value University cities, according to The Royal Bank of Scotland's Student Living Index. Top of the league two yeas ago and still in the top three – that’s consistent value!  A combination of relatively low living costs and rent and higher weekly earnings from part-time work have kept Cardiff at the top of the value table. 
 
The Index ranks Britain's major university towns by plotting average student expenditure on living and housing costs against income from term-time employment. The research, conducted in 26 British university towns reveals that in a single academic year,  going to Cardiff could mean the average student is more than £2,400 better off. Even though Cardiff is one of the best value University cities, according to The Royal Bank of Scotland's Student Living Index, you may still need to find work. There is a huge variety of work available in Cardiff, ranging from part-time jobs in bars, cafes and shops, to full time work during the summer. For more information on finding work

 

Most students on courses of more than 6 months are allowed to work part-time during term for up to 20 hours a week.

 

Before you look for a job in the UK, check your passport stamp or visa sticker which will tell you if you can work during your studies.

 

If you graduate from a recognised UK university with a degree or higher in any subject, you can apply to stay on and work in the UK for a year under the International Graduates Scheme (IGS).
